Day 1- Sacred Valley, Cusco,Peru

Well, Day One was AMAZING! We really packed it in today, bit of a crowd at Lima airport but once we were on the plane it was only an hour until we arrived at Cusco.

Cusco! 11000 feet above sea level, the air is thin and makes you feel as though you are out of breath just from walking. We went up a further 1000 feet to visit an archeological site, then went back down again to Sacred Valley which is at 9000 feet to acclimatise for a couple of days.

We stopped off at a Llama farm, have to be the weirdest Llamas I’ve ever seen!

After that, a Peruvian BBQ at a ranch where we watched a lovely display of the super smooth gaited Peruvian Paso Horses. On then to another archeological site with the most amazing Inca terraces.

Tomorrow is another busy day, off to Machu Picchu in the Hiam Bingham Orient Express.

  1. My husband and I are going to the Sacred Valley soon and staying at Sol & Luna — your horse photo makes me think that may be the ranch you visited. Is that right?
