Cape Town

Amazing Pink Sunset

I’ve never seen a sunset quite like this one taken from Waterkloof Vineyard in Gordon’s Bay, Cape Town. Because of the bush fires raging close to table mountain the sky is quite incredible.

Oyster Catchers

This pair of beautiful Oyster Catchers have been sitting on their nest for well over 3 weeks in the spectacular Bientangs Cave Restaurant in Hermanus, Western Cape. I love this photo of the parent protecting her egg from the cormorant!

Sunsets

We were treated today to THE most amazing sunset I’ve ever seen. Taken in Gordon’s Bay, Cape Town after a day of ferocious winds in the Western Cape!

Bientangs Cave Restaurant Hermanus

Every once in a while you come across something, or somewhere that makes you feel at peace with the world. One such place for me is Bientangs Cave Restaurant, Hermanus, South Africa I was introduced to Bientangs by some very close friends about 3 years ago and now every time I visit South Africa , […]

Probably my Best Ever Photo

This photo was taken from a remote beach on the Western Cape called Dappat Se Gat! The dolphins put on the most beautiful show surfing the waves and I was lucky enough to have my camera exactly at the right place They were waiting behind the wave until a good one came along and then all […]

UNBELIEVABLE Zodiac Night Safari

Well, we signed up on this holiday  for Adventure, and my goodness, tonight we definitely got it ! This was our third Zodiac river safari of the day, the first was at 6.30 am, 2nd at 4.30 and the final one of the day was at 8.30 in the pitch black. Now, when I say […]

Arariba – Indigenous art of the Amazon – Alter do Chao

Today we stopped at a wonderful town called Alter do Chao, Brazil. In the morning, we hiked for a couple of hours along a sandy trail to the top of a small mountain, the last part of the hike was really steep but the view from the top was BREATHTAKING. I’ll write more about what […]

River Safaris & Monkeys

Todays river safari was on the River Negra, Manaus, late afternoon when the light was at its best! We saw monkeys, an eagle, parrots, an amazing sun Bitern which too fast for me to catch a photo unfortunately! At one point we were shocked by a Cessna that appeared out of nowhere and more or less […]

Swimming With PINK Dolphins

Incredible as it seems, the dolphins in the Amazon river really are PINK!  Noone really knows why, although one theory is that to adapt to temperatures, their blood is closer to the skin and therefore their skin appears pink! These photos were taken in the River Negro, Manaus, Brazil. The dolphins are wild but are […]

Cuxiu Muni Village, Brazil

We had a very interesting day today at Cuxiu Muni, Brazil. It’s a tiny village, I doubt whether they have visitors at all as they were quite unperterbed by a few of us walking past their tiny shacks. They were all very friendly and in exchange for apples, pencils, books for the children, they were […]

The Japanese Toilet Seat

Now, don’t get me started on the Japanese toilet seat!!  Well, ok, I will anyway…..they are EVERYWHERE !! NOT just in the fancy hotels, but in restaurants, train stations, bus stations, department stores, I read somewhere that 70% of Japanese HOMES have them too ! Now, it’s not JUST that they are heated and that in […]

Nagano by Bullet

I got my Japan Rail Pass today which allows me to travel anywhere in Japan by rail so I wasted no time in jumping onto a bullet train, something I’ve been wanting to do since we arrived ! Where to go? Well, it was a case of sticking a pin in a map and seeing […]

Walking Tokyo

My day yesterday was spent….walking! With a few metro trips thrown in of course but I must have walked miles, just soaking up the atmosphere of the city ! I started off at the Imperial Palace Gardens, very peaceful and extreme well manicured as you might imagine ! Fell in love with the most beautiful, […]

Tokyo Inner Fish Market

Visited the Tokyo Fish Market today, the Inner Market where tourists are not REALLY supposed to go. Missed the famous tuna auctions though, not surprising as they normally take place at 5 am  but there was still PLENTY going on. It was fabulous to see a traditional part of Japanese daily life in much the way […]

Mount Fuji and Volcanic Fissures

Mount Fuji and a visit to the Mount Komagatake Ropeway to the summit where volcanic gasses are leaking out of the mountainside creating ‘hot springs’. The smell of the gasses was incredibly strong, sulphur mostly although there were warning signs pointing out the dangers of the gasses for those with asthma, luckily we didn’t stay […]

First Authentic Japanese Sushi

We didn’t waste much time before trying out the ‘real thing’ in a sushi restaurant in Tokyo and have now  discovered just HOW different authentic sushi is to the ‘westernised’ version we have in the UK. There was NO ‘California’ roll, NO ‘Dragon’ roll, just pure sushi, basically LOTS and LOTS of totally raw fish. I […]

Cheetahs on the Mara

We spent such a long time admiring these two cheetahs, it was almost like they were posing for the cameras, relaxed and happy in the sunshine, it was as though we didn’t exist. Such incredibly beautiful animals and just one more species to add the the incredible list of animals we were seeing each day, […]

Thrilled to Bits today!

Considering that the Olympic Games are in  the UK,  my own country  of residence this year,  it has been virtually impossible to get tickets for the Olympic games. I applied for Olympic games tickets last year, and was unsuccessful in the ballot. Today the Olympics ticket Website offered those who were not successful in the […]

A Stroll By The Dubai Creek

Today was a very special day spent with my son, doing the ‘tourist’ thing in Dubai. We started with a trip to the viewing gallery on the 124th floor of the Burj Khalifa Tower. VERY IMPRESSIVE ! Very well managed, well organised and quite spectacular when you get to the top, nowhere near as scary […]

Spot The Skyscraper

A few different aspects of the Burj Khalifa Tower, Dubai. It’s a bit ‘tongue in cheek’ really, the ‘spot the skyscraper’ title, just a bit of fun as the area I was walking in was dominated by the amazing Burj Khalifa Tower, great for photography!

Dancing Fountains, Burj Khalifa, Dubai

This is the ‘view from my window’ again. They show dancing fountain displays every night from 6pm to 11pm, every half hour, each display lasts about 3 minutes and are SPECTACULAR.I haven’t managed to capture the sound very well as I’m taking the videos from my hotel room window but the visuals are FANTASTIC ! […]

Dubai Sunshine

Have a lovely view from my room at the moment, of the Burj Tower and fountains in Dubai. It’s nice to feel a bit of warmth after the cold weather in the UK recently although the weather even here is a bit strange, a bit cloudy and hazy with a storm threatening. I’m hoping we […]
